Patient Advocate Foundation launches comprehensive hypertriglyceridemia TotalAssist fund

Today, Patient Advocate Foundation opened a TotalAssist fund designed to help with out-of-pocket healthcare costs for eligible patients living with hypertriglyceridemia, or high triglycerides.

This comprehensive TotalAssist fund provides a grant of up to $6,600 per year that can be used to help pay for eligible expenses including medication copays, coinsurance, and deductibles, health insurance premiums, office visit charges the day of treatment, and administration charges related to treatment.

Hypertriglyceridemia, commonly referred to as high triglycerides, is a chronic condition in which someone has too many triglycerides, or fats, in their blood. High levels of triglycerides raise your risk of cardiovascular disease, liver, and pancreas problems. According to the Journal of Clinical Lipidology, there are approximately 82,000 new cases per year, and risk goes up as people age. In fact, it’s estimated that hypertriglyceridemia affects 42% of adults aged 60 and above.

“It’s critical that those living with hypertriglyceridemia receive treatment to help prevent serious complications, such as acute pancreatitis, heart attack, or stroke,” said Kevin L. Hagan, Patient Advocate Foundation’s CEO. “Often, people with hypertriglyceridemia have other underlying health conditions, such as diabetes, obesity, hypothyroidism, kidney disease, or liver disease. That’s why, thanks to our generous donors, we’re grateful to be able to offer these patients financial help to cover a broad range of eligible out-of-pocket expenses, including medication costs, health insurance premiums, and more.”

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the TotalAssist hypertriglyceridemia fund, patients must:

  • Have a confirmed diagnosis and be in treatment for hypertriglyceridemia, or planning to begin treatment in the next 60 days, or have been in treatment in the past 6 months. This includes active surveillance of a condition
  • Have government insurance (Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE) that covers your qualifying expenses
  • Have an income at or less than 500% of the Federal Poverty Level, adjusted for your regional Cost of Living Index (COLI)
  • Be a legal resident and receive treatment in the U.S. or a U.S. territory
  • Be prescribed a medication or product included in the approved medication list for this specific fund, if using the fund for medication expenses
