About the disease
Lipodystrophy is a group of disorders of adipose tissue (fat) characterized by selective loss of fat from various parts of the body. There are several types of lipodystrophies, and the degree of fat loss may range from very small, depressed areas to a near-complete absence of adipose tissue. These disorders can be either inherited (familial or genetic) lipodystrophies or secondary to various illnesses or drugs (acquired lipodystrophies).
